Hi Jesse,
I know there are multiple older threads about iPhone ports, so you already know there's big interest in a native app. And since you've got a Touch, I'm sure you want one too.
Have you had time to explore the SDK yet? What was your reaction?
Taskpaper for my iPhone is equivalent to Epocrates for doctors: it would make all the difference.
Thanks, Peter
Since the SDK has been released, I was wondering if there were any plans to do a port of WriteRoom to the iPhone?
I do a lot of writing when I am out-and-about on a PDA (HP iPAQ) and then sync in back to WriteRoom via MissingSync. It's a little annoying, because I have to use PocketWord which stores documents in that Pocket Office format (which is annoying), and means that any NEW documents have to be first created in WriteRoom and then synced over to the iPAQ before I can start writing. A little tedious.
Would anyone else find an iPhone port handy?
I have to concede, I haven't yet been able to get my hands on an iPhone - so I have no idea how well they would function in a word processing capacity. I live in Australia, and Apple is taking its merry time introducing the device to market. I haven't been able to find much in the way of reviewers discussing the word processing ability of the iPhone. I use a stylus on the iPAQ, and it's quick. The iPhone uses that two finger keyboard... how well would that work with something like WriteRoom.
Anyway - would love to hear other peoples thoughts.
Cheers.
Hi there Jesse,
Please check out http://spatialviews.com/2007/12/04/how-to-sync-takpaper-and-iphone-notes-over-wifi-formatted-version/
It shows a nice trick for syncing TaskPaper with the iPhone. That's one thing that might get me to buy TaskPaper instead of any other app. It looks so nice on the iPhone's Notes app. You should get in touch with the guy and work with him to make that more integrated and easier.
There's also one thing I wanna ask... Is there a possibility for TaskPaper to ever be able to link to the universal to-do thing in Leopard, the way Anxiety.app does? (Ye, I know Anxiety is just a todo app and not a GTD and it's not text-based... But there should be a way to convert the text-based taskpaper items to leopard's data files, right?
Cheers,
Shawin.
There are a couple of 3rd party apps that might make life easier for iPhone/iPod Touch users- MobileFinder and MobileTextEdit-
http://code.google.com/p/mobilefinder/ http://code.google.com/p/mobiletextedit/
As they exist today, you should be able edit TaskPaper files copied over to your device with MobileTextEdit (I haven't tried them yet, but will soon.) MobileFinder touts 'User modifiable associated file types launch file viewer apps', so no changes should be needed to the TaskPaper file at all.
You should also be able to synchronize files, though it's not a simple 1-click process- ('Desktop synchronization via ssh and rsync'.) But this could probably be reasonably automated with an Applescript.
Also, one of the listed future ideas is 'Synchronize files from desktop for quick access anywhere'.
The programs seem very rough around the edges at this point, and you do lose some features- no auto-correction, and no magnifying glass for cursor placement. But it's a start...
Hi, Yesterday i tried to configure Taskpaper.web in my iphone without luck. If i enter in the demo site, i can more or less work perfectly with the todo list. I can select projects, click on contexts, etc and the web page will show me what i'm doing. If it doesn't refresh by itself it's as easy as clicking the refresh botton. But i've tried to reproduce the same in my iphone and i cannot make it work. I've installed lighttpd and php and installed TaskPaper.web in a todo folder under the webpage werver folder. I enter through http://127.0.0.1/todo/
Could someone tell me how i can fix this? I only modified lighttpd.conf to include php and mod_dirlisting feature. I think that permissions are correct so i don't know where the problem is.
I could at some point think that it doesn't work in the iphone but after being able to navigate through the demo site, i know that there could be a way to make it work.
Thanks in advance, David
Jesse, do you have any plans to make TaskPaper an iPhone app once the SDK appears in February?
The only thing I'd LOVE to see with TP is the ability to have reminders sent to my iPhone.
I know, I know.... I know this is a big one and not easy to implement but, believe it or not, I'm not ALWAYS at my computer. I'd love to be able to get an SMS message with a task that is due that day (due dates?) or just a text message every AM letting me know what tasks are set for the day.
Just thinking of TP 2.0 ;-)
Jesse - congrats to going live with the shop and v1 (well, soon enough ;-) I noticed that the link on the top of the forum points to the regular software homepage (which is really well done!). I was wondering, if you could put up a new roadmap (or at least the parts that you are willing to share) here on the forum. There are bits and pieces available in the postings, but it might be useful for folks who are not as trusting as me, what exactly they are to expect when you say "many new things in v1.1" - I bet a lot of us wonder about further possible web integration (hosted on hogbsbaysoftware, as the code is available, but users might find if useful to get access to an account here), iPhone support (either online, or in February, with an iPhone version), further script support (e.g., will it be possible to link individual lists together in a master list?), or whatever other nice things you have in mind...
