Feature request: forced line breaks

Posted June 28, 2008 by Thom Coverly in feature request line breaks

Perhaps this is already possible, in which case I'd be delighted for further instructions!

But it seems that WR doesn't respect the forced line break (i.e. SHIFT+RETURN), which allows a new line without a space before.

In other apps I always set my default paragraph style to have space before. Then if I want to create a new line but not a new par (e.g. if typing out lines of poetry, or creating a simple list) I use the forced line-break to do that. It's very elegant and makes for "good typesetting" when the document is ultimately formatted or typeset for publication.

The alternative is clumsy: setting the space before to zero points and then using double returns to create paragraph breaks (which then have to be hunted down and removed outside of WR). And this alternative doesn't really work for me if I'm open one of my existing files in WriteRoom for editing.

Is there a way to achieve forced line-breaks? If not, this is my one big feature request.

I think this is already possible, but in Mac OS X (or at least in Cocoa Mac OS X) the standard way to insert those line breaks is with Control-Return, not Shift-Return. So try Control-Return and I think that will do what you want.
