Hi Jesse,

I am interested in perhaps purchasing your Writeroom software but just have a few questions first. I'm not very techy so I hope you can bear with me!

I came across Writeroom awhile ago. I think it was a free unlimited trial back then? Anyway, it worked great until I was asked to update the demo (I think... I remember having to redownload it). From then on Writeroom became really buggy. Often it would crash midsentence and refuse to start up again. I put it aside and forgot about it. Recently I've been trying to use it again. I am still getting the frequent crashes, and a new one has developed - every time I use the backspace key, the program freezes.

I am interested in purchasing Writeroom, but I wanted to know if these bugs were fixed in the purchased version, or it's still the same, or perhaps if these bugs are specific to my computer (?). I downloaded the free version again (thinking perhaps that a newer bugfree version was available) but I got the message that my 30 day trial had expired (fair enough, since I first downloaded it over a year ago). Is it possible to get a new 30 day trial just to see if the bugs are gone?

Also, are there any differences between the free version of Writeroom and the purchased one?

Sorry for the long delay replying... I've been away for the last month.

You can still download the original free version from this page. At the very bottom is a link for WriteRoom 1.0.

As for all those crashes, I'm not sure. Generally I think WriteRoom is pretty stable it has lots of users and I haven't heard about very many crashes, certainly not constant crashes. So it must have something to do with your specific computer config. What version of WriteRoom is doing all the crashing?

I'm not sure why you would get that 30 day trial expired message if you downloaded the free version... are you sure that you downloaded version 1.0? Anyway you can always reset the trial... Shh...

  1. Quit WriteRoom.
  2. Delete WriteRoom's preferences plist. Here's where its located on my computer:

/Users/jesse/Library/Preferences/com.hogbaysoftware.WriteRoom.plist

On your computer it will be in "yourusername" instead of "jesse".

  1. Restart WriteRoom.

No, the demo is the full version. It just needs to be unlocked to work past 30 days.

So please try the latest download, if you still get continuous crashes please email me and I'll try to figure out what is going on.
