Subversion for Writers. If you are a writer, and want a better way of versioning your files than saving old copies on your desktop check make sure to check that article out. It's a great step by step introduction to version control, geared to writers on OS X.

Minor edit made to include a link (also here) to a simple .dmg-style Subversion installer for Mac OS X Tiger. Saves all that tedious messing about with fink or macports. :-)

There's a typo on the Subversion page: "then" should be "than."

Where? All the 'then's seem to be correct to me...
There's a whole paragraph that's almost gibberish, that no-one's commented on yet. ;-) Going to try to reword that sometime.
Actually I can't find it myself now... oh well... :-)

I think the 'then' comment was directed at my blog post... I edited and fixed the problem... I think :)

This is really great, thanks Rachel for taking the time to write it.
For those less technically inclined, I happened to randomly come across this app not 30 minutes after I read Rachel's article-
http://www.timedrawer.com/
I'm sure this does no more, but just wanted to post it. No checking in and out, but it will automatically save a copy of your work (customizable settings, so you can restrict it to project folders, etc.) I also like the interface for comparing 2 different documents.
40 bones, but might be worth it. Right now I just manually create copies to intermittently archive work, which works reasonably fine. But the comparison feature sounds nice.
Thanks, Steve

Hey, that looks pretty good.
I'll probably stick with Subversion because I also use it to sync between multiple machines and to provide read-only access to proofers and prereaders, but for the single-user, single-machine case, which is as far as my howto went, that looks brilliant.
