page breaks?
Posted February 27, 2008 by Zack
As I'm writing my book in WR, I'm finding the one thing I'm missing most from MS Word is the page break function. Is there anyway to get this implemented in WR? Right now I'm having to switch back to Word every time I want to insert a break.
Just a friendly suggestion :)

Yeah I should probably add this. I sorta avoided it because I don't want people to do too much formatting in WriteRoom, or else the feature requests will get out of control. But I see TextEdit allows insertion of Page breaks, so I guess WriteRoom should too.
By the way (after this question some of you may begin to doubt my skills :)) can anyone tell me what the difference is between line and paragraphs breaks? For example in TextEdit there is the option to insert a line break, or to insert a paragraph break?

Line breaks have no space between the lines; paragraph breaks do.
Here's a link to a page that explains it well, and with illustrations:

Regarding page breaks...
I guess I'm old fashion having starting in the day of typewriters and paper... But, I want to know when one page ends and another one begins, as I print out much. F.A. Hutchison in China

I think I might have misread your original question. WriteRoom does already support dividing your text into multiple pages. To get that choose the menu:
Format > Wrap to Page
The part that is missing is the ability to arbitrarily insert a page break character... so that you can make text go to the next page even if the current page still has empty space (such as at the end of a chapter.
But I think plain old "Wrap to Page" will get you most of what you want.
