WriteRoom's topics http://hogbaysoftware.com/forums/writeroom/topics en-us 60 60 PROBLEM http://hogbaysoftware.com/forums/writeroom/topics/918_PROBLEM_
Hi, there

These days I discovered WriteRoom and thought it was worth giving it a try, so I am using the 30-days trial version.Until yesterday I was working on a chapter of my thesis using the WriteRoom. When I finished I saved the text in a file and today it is unreadable. It is a lot of work to be lost. Can anyone help me with that?
Tue, 26 Aug 2008 21:03:37 -0500 gagmaba Spelling in WriteRoom http://hogbaysoftware.com/forums/writeroom/topics/915_Spelling_in_WriteRoom
Any chance of getting other languages in the spell check in WriteRoom? I figured it just ran on the OS spell check but WriteRooms spell check is still English even though my OS spell check is another language.

Other info: Running Leopard. OS language English. Danish spell check via cocoAspell.

Thanks
Tue, 26 Aug 2008 08:52:00 -0500 Morten Hypertext links? http://hogbaysoftware.com/forums/writeroom/topics/909_Hypertext_links_
I notice that WriteRoom will recognize links, if you cut and paste them in. But there seems no way of creating them on the fly. I know we're all about simplicity here, but this would be a very useful, non-bloating addition, IMHO.
Mon, 18 Aug 2008 21:00:24 -0500 Andrew Coyne email address has changed http://hogbaysoftware.com/forums/writeroom/topics/908_email_address_has_changed
The email address I had when I registered WriteRoom I no longer have. However, it isn't obvious to me how to create an em dash. Em dashes are an important staple of writing, and in MS Word they are easily created: type two hyphens in a row, click the space bar, and the word processor fuses the two hyphens into a single em dash. Other word processors have similar shortcuts.

Apologies if I'm being an idiot, and am missing WriteRoom's em dash shortcut; but if no such shortcut exists, I would regard it as a fairly glaring omission from WriteRoom's current arsenal of features. Yes, I can copy & paste em dashes between MS Word and WriteRoom (provided I have 'Rich Text' enabled), but that is cumbersome and contrary to the whole purpose of WriteRoom: efficient and distraction-free writing.

This isn't pedantry; I use em dashes as often as I use parentheses. Having no shortcut to create one feels equivalent to an ability to produce question marks, semi-colons, or other common symbols. I hope I'm wrong, and that there is a shortcut (or perhaps one in the pipeline?). Otherwise it's back to MS Word I skulk!

Cheers, Al
Thu, 14 Aug 2008 17:54:47 -0500 Alan Write room is great, except http://hogbaysoftware.com/forums/writeroom/topics/901_Write_room_is_great_except
when it installed it took over all the docs that I want to open with other programs, Pages and open office. How do I get back control? I tried teling the mac to use a different prog but it still uses writeroom in any doc recieved in MAIL. Is there a way to keep the cursor at the original size?

Thanks
Mon, 11 Aug 2008 19:47:27 -0500 MattM Typewriter scrolling in editing http://hogbaysoftware.com/forums/writeroom/topics/894_Typewriter_scrolling_in_editing
I love typewriter scrolling and it had a major part in why I bought Writeroom. However, it can be pretty distracting when editing as opposed to writing a document, as the cursor, whenever it is during scrolling, jumps into the middle of the screen once I begin to change something.

I think the most unobtrusive solution would be to keep the cursor, while scrolling with arrow keys, in the middle of the screen all the time, and let the text slide by.
Thu, 07 Aug 2008 08:44:55 -0500 Kristjan Kannike
