Thanks. Downloaded MacVim and the write in external editor seems to work just fine in the short testing I've done. Hopefully it will perform well across a variety of apps.

Wow, it reminded me of why I loved WriteRoom in the beginning!

Is there a simple way to change the keystroke combo for initiating the open in external editor? (Though I'm sure I'll get used to the current one with time.)

I'd like to point out that QuickCursor is actually not the only solution available. MacVim has its own "Edit in External Editor..." feature which allows you to select WriteRoom as the external editor:

Of course, MacVim also has its own full-screen editing mode, with a much wider variety of configurable interface cruft. On the other hand, getting it to look and act exactly like WriteRoom, down to the auto-hiding widgets and the particulars of typewriter scrolling, is not currently possible.

I also have to agree with the other comments here. I bought WriteRoom back in October last year (I paid full price) and used it heaps while I was still using Tiger, but since upgrading to Leopard I have used it so little I don't even have it installed on my computer any more. I was actually pretty pissed about it at the time, $25 US for something I only got a month or so's use out of.

The version of WriteRoom listed in this thread (development 57) is the latest release.

QuickCursor to slow down my computer; so I haven't been using it. If there's any sort of log or something that I can provide please let me know!

Can you describe what happens a bit more? Is QuickCursors CPU or Memory use in the Activity monitory spiking? Does the slow down happen immediately, or slowly over time after you've had the app open for a while?

I haven't been following WriteRoom's development for the past few months… is the 3.0 development version the latest or is the Leopard version the latest? I'm using Leopard.

I'll throw my support in for a stable Leopard version… While I don't think anything is missing I bought WriteRoom for the "Edit in WriteRoom" feature and found QuickCursor to slow down my computer; so I haven't been using it. If there's any sort of log or something that I can provide please let me know!

Thanks. I was working around a bug in previous versions of 10.5... if I completely hid the dock then the minimize button for other applications in other spaces would stop working. It appears that as of 10.5.4 this has been fixed. So the next release of WriteRoom will be able to completely hide the doc, and fix this problem.

Briefly, jumping around is unavoidable when clicking somewhere within text away from the center. But I prefer to do my editing, scrolling with the arrow keys. In that case typewriter scrolling is doable by keeping the cursor always in the middle vertically just like in writing, and letting the text scroll.
