Transparent Background for Taskpaper

Posted January 24, 2008 by Zack Mahdavi in Taskpaper transparency background

Hi, I just recently purchased Taskpaper through the recent Macheist promo. I had been trying out Things, Omnifocus, and iGTD previously, and I found them to be way too complicated for my tastes. I love the simple text based approach of Taskpaper! Great job!

However, I noticed that I like to keep the Taskpaper document open all the time on my desktop. The problem is that since it is always on my desktop, the wallpaper is always obstructed. It would be nice to be able to set the "alpha" transparency value for the Taskpaper background.

Thanks again for such a wonderful app!

Yes, I would second that option. I have been using Stickies for my to-do lists for some time and I've always liked the "Translucent Window" option.

I third the option!

I haven't been using a Mac for all that long yet (Linux convert), but isn't this ability built-in to Mac OS? Just double-tap the command key when the TaskPaper window has the focus, and it should shift to transparent mode.

I'm not sure if you can adjust the level of transparency - but pretty much any program window can be made transparent that way...

Uh...that doesn't seem to work or your instructions were not clear enough for me to follow.

I don't think that's a default OS X behavior. I think he must have had some haxie/extension installed.

That sounds (judging from the double-tap) a lot like WindowShade X. You might look into your System Preferences and see if it is there. I found the functionality very useful back when I used it pre-Leopard. Doesn't work with Leopard, though.
