A Universal binary of HBN 3.5?

Posted September 11, 2007 by John Wiegley

Hi Jesse,

I'm having a lot of trouble finding a better quick notetaking app than the original Hog Bay Notebook. I have version 3.5, but I wondering if it might be possible to recompile it as a Universal Binary? If it would be effortless, that is, and not require any porting.

Thanks, John

Sorry, I just gave it a quick try without much luck. Since HBN won't have any future development I'd suggest moving to Mori or some other "living" notebook project. Sorry to disappoint.

That's a pity.

HogBay Notebook was great. I never liked Mori much.

All the less that HogBay Notebook had to die for the OpenDoc confusion of Mori.

It would be great to have a Universal Binary for HogBay Notebook.

Perhaps you could outsource the compile process if you don't have time for it. There's a lot of registered HogBay Notebook users out there who never moved to Mori who would probably like to be able to use HogBay Notebook on their Intel Macs.

Hmm. Apparently I am the last user on earth of HBNotebook 1.2.1. Well it's still a damn great bit of design and it was literally my homework machine in law school- on top of keeping track of everything else text in my life for several years. Unfortunately under Tiger searches don't work well. I am still using the HB Timer, too, where'd that go? Too much updating to keep up with so many programs? Well I will say this, as a former (pre-GUI) programmer, that you're a terrific programmer with a real knack for distilling everything down to the simplest, and therefore fastest, ideas in a GUI.

Where is Mori in the store? I found it at versiontracker.com but not here.

I sold Mori to another company, you can find and download it here. I think they should still be offering free upgrades to HBN users if you want.
